Wrang Edges Busquet for EPT Campione Title
Dane Jannick Wrang is the 2012 EPT Campione champion, defeating Olivier Busquet heads-up after a 13-hour final table to claim the title.
Wrang, primarily an online PLO specialist under the alias EDWARDHOPPER with over $1 million in career earnings, earns €640,000 and his first major live title with the win.
Beginning the heads-up match fairly even in chips, the money was on Busquet, a heads-up specialist, to bring it home but Wrang was undeterred.
After about an hour and 15 minutes of heads-up play, Wrang had worked his lead up to about 12 million to four million when Busquet got it all-in with ace-nine against Wrang's ace-six.
Four hearts on the board gave Wrang the flush to go with his A♥ and that was enough to end the match.
Busquet earns €430,000 for his runner-up finish - an impressive score considering he was the short stack and on the brink of exiting the tournament when play was four-handed.
Soulier Bows Out in Third
French pro Fabrice Soulier, one of the heavy favorites coming into the day wth the chip lead at 3.48 million, had an up-and-down day before he finally fell in third.
Hungarian Balazs Botond, another chip leader earlier in the tournament, bowed out in fourth.
Joen De Visscher, Mario Nagel, Stefano Puccilli and Robin Ylitalo all made fairly early exits, leaving before the dinner break (except for De Visscher, who hit the rail the very first hand after).
Wrang is the third consecutive Danish winner on the European Poker Tour. Mickey "mement_mori" Petersen won EPT Copenhagen in February and Frederick Jensen took the EPT Madrid title earlier this month.
The final eight and their payouts:
1. Jannick Wrang €640,000
2. Olivier Busquet €430,000
3. Fabrice Soulier €240,000
4. Balazs Botond €157,000
5. Joen De Visscher €124,000
6. Mario Nagel €92,000
7. Stefano Puccilli €71,500
