WPT World Poker Open prelims begin today

The World Poker Open may still be two weeks away but poker players can head to the Gold Strike Casino in Tunica early to take in the preliminary events, which start today.

The first preliminary event is a $300+$40 No-Limit Hold'em event already under way at the casino. The winner of the event will get a good chunk of the prize pool plus entry into the World Poker Open main event which starts Jan. 20.

In fact, all but four of the 17 preliminary events will have $10,000 held from the prize pool to award a seat in the main event. Plus the casino will host several single, super- and mega-satellites for players to win their way into the main event as well.

*These events do not withhold $10,000 for main event seat.

Single and super-satellites began yesterday, and there will be mega-satellites playing daily through Jan. 16 at 4 p.m. (all times CST) with a $300+$30 buy-in and one optional $200 re-buy.

On Jan. 17 the $1,000+$60 mega-satellites will begin at 5 p.m. There will be two more, one at noon and another starting at 5 p.m. on Jan. 18. Then one at noon and another at 8 p.m. Jan. 19.

The main event begins Jan. 20 and is scheduled to play through Jan. 23. PokerListings.com will be on the scene when the action begins to bring you live updates, photos, interviews and more.
