WPT, FSN launch new show

The World Poker Tour and FSN are teaming up for another project with the launch ClubWPT.com. The new series will debut on Sunday at 4 p.m. local time with an 11 p.m. encore.

ClubWPT.com will be another first for poker programming as it features six amateur players from around the United States and Canada competing each week for their shot at cash prizes and poker stardom.

Unlike the regular WPT tournaments that get televised, these players won't be putting up a $10,000 buy-in to get into the events. Instead they'll earn their seat in the show by playing in specially designated online tournaments.

The TV-seat tournaments will run six nights per week online, giving players plenty of opportunity to win their way into the television show.

"Poker is the only sport that allows the everyday Joe to go up against the professionals and win life-changing money and celebrity status," said Steve Lipscomb, WPT founder, president and CEO.

"And we all want to be in that seat, but most of us don't have the opportunity to invest the time or money to be a pro and play in big casino games. ClubWPT.com gives you the opportunity - six nights a week, in your own home - to win a seat on national television and the chance to live the dream."

Qualifiers for the show will receive roundtrip airfare to Los Angeles where they will have a two-night stay at the Four Seasons Hotel plus spending money and loads of VIP amenities while they make their appearance for the show.

The series will be filmed in high definition with FSN sportscaster Barry Tomkins and "Live at the Bike" announcer Bart Hansen providing commentary and strategy. Alison Waite will host the show.

"The World Poker Tour, the most respected brand name in poker, has long been the leader in poker innovation and they continue that trend with this series," said George Greenberg, FSN executive vice president programming and production.

"ClubWPT.com is the premier place offering amateur poker players the opportunity to experience the status and cachet usually reserved for the biggest names in poker."

FSN will also be the new home for the seventh season of the World Poker Tour. Episodes from the season will debut later this year in the Sunday Night Sports Block.
