WPT discusses Season 7 with GSN

World Poker Tour Enterprises Inc. announced today that it is in discussions with GSN after the network's option for exclusive broadcast of the entire World Poker Tour seventh season expired on Saturday.

After spending five years partnered with the Travel Channel, WPT Enterprises made a deal with GSN in April 2007 to move the World Poker Tour to their channel for Season 6. The deal included 23 original two-hour episodes broadcast on GSN for Season 6.

"The World Poker Tour has been a great partner and the show continues to perform strongly on our network," said GSN CEO David Goldhill. "We are continuing discussions with WPTE regarding how we may be able to work together - including perhaps broadcasting parts of Season VII."

According to its press release, the WPTE is currently in discussions with several major networks to broadcast programming from its seventh season. That season kicks off July 11 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas and runs through April 2009.

"We have enjoyed watching the show and our numbers grow on GSN. Our hope is that we can find ways to collaborate with the network long into the future," said Steve Lipscomb, WPT founder, president and CEO.

"This may allow us the first opportunity to explore diversifying content on multiple networks like most sports leagues. We have already begun those discussions and look forward to making another season of the best and most widely distributed poker programming in the world [available] to our dedicated viewers and fans."

The World Poker Tour hosts major live tournaments all over the world, offering poker fans a chance at big money plus big exposure when the events are televised. Many poker sites take advantage of the WPT's popularity by offering up special promotions for players to win a seat in the events.

GSN will continue to broadcast WPT Season 6 episodes on Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT through late August. The network will also continue to broadcast encore episodes of the season for up to four years.

Poker fans who would like to see Seasons 2 through 5 can still view them in encore presentations on the Travel Channel.
