WPT Caribbean Adventure begins Thursday

It's that time of year again to pack your bags with your best beach gear and sunscreen and head to the Caribbean for the PokerStars.com Caribbean Adventure. The poker tournament begins Thursday at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas.

This World Poker Tour (WPT) Season 5 event has an estimated $6 million prize pool and features six days of play. Approximately 750 people are expected to vie for the championship title.

Among those players will be poker pros Joe Hachem, Chris Moneymaker, Barry Greenstein, Humberto Brenes and Tom McEvoy. Norm MacDonald and Mimi Rogers are also expected to add some star power to the event.

"The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is the perfect combination of high-caliber poker and a tropical paradise," said Steve Paul Ambrose, last year's winner. "I cannot imagine a more scenic and exotic environment to host a world-class poker tournament."

The final table of six will play out Jan. 10 and be recorded for television. For those who can't make it to the Caribbean to watch it live, the event will air in the United States June 6 on the Travel Channel.

PokerStars.com is also sending 27 players to the Atlantis resort to play out the grand finale of the Moneymaker Millionaire, the largest free poker tournament in history. The final three, nine-person tables will play Jan. 6.

The winner of the Moneymaker Millionaire will win a prize package worth $1 million including a brand new 2007 Aston Martin DB9.
