WPT Canada premiers on Rogers Sportsnet
The World Poker Tour Canada began broadcasting this week on Rogers Sportsnet with the first episode airing on Monday.
The show will include four, one-hour episodes featuring commentary by Canadian sports announcer Jim Van Horne and poker pro Kenna James. It features action from the WPT Canada Coast to Coast Championship.
The Championship was a nine-day tournament series that offered seven different poker events at the River Rock Casino in Vancouver. Nearly 2,000 players headed to the casino to partake in the events, with more than $1.6 million up for grabs during the nine days.
Monday's episode was the first part of a two-part showing of the Coast-to-Coast Championships Bounty Event final table.
The $1,000, three-day bounty event saw 439 players take their seats for the first televised WPT Canada event. With a $92,120 first-place prize on the line, the event attracted several poker pros.
Brad "Yukon" Booth was on hand along with Gavin Smith to represent the Canadians. Davidson Matthew, Antonio Esfandiari and Kenna James all made the trip across the border to play with a bounty on their heads as well.
The second part of the final table from this event is scheduled to air Sept. 10. Poker fans interested in watching should check their local listings for all broadcast times and dates on Sportsnet East, Sportsnet Ontario, Sportsnet West and Sportsnet Pacific.
Future WPT Canada episodes will feature the Coast to Coast Championships main event final table, with players vying for a $224,100 first-place prize.
