WPA brings ethics into tournament poker

By Henrik Nilsson-Dahlbom

The World Poker Association (WPA) has released an Ethics code with the aim to set a standard for poker tournaments. Members and aspiring members of WPA have to adhere to the new code.

The Ethics code was recently completed by the board of WPA and is divided into five sections:

  • General provisions
  • Relationships among players
  • Relationships between players and dealers
  • Player-management relationships
  • External relationships

The code aims to ban collusion of any form, and promote professional behavior at the tables among other things.

WPA has also written an Ethics Compliance Pledge:

"As a condition of admission and continued membership in the World Poker Association (WPA), I pledge to support and uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct in all aspects of poker competition and tournament activities, and hereby agree to comply with the WPA Code of Ethics as developed and periodically updated by the WPA and posted on its official website, www.wpapoker.org."

WPA currently has 1,333 members across the globe.
