The Women's Poker Club (WPC) announced their first live tournament overseas with a No-Limit Hold'em event scheduled for June 17, 2006, in the United Kingdom. The winner of the WPC U.K. Showdown, taking place at the Grosvenor Casino in Walsall, will receive her share of the prize pool plus a World Series of Poker (WSOP) $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Ladies Event prize package.
WPC is the largest organized international group of women poker players with more than 3,000 members worldwide. The U.K. boasts a growing number of members and was chosen as the location for the inaugural live event as a result.
"There are many U.K. women playing poker online that would find going to a live game very intimidating. I helped to organize this event so that myself and other U.K. women would have a welcoming, friendly, and fun experience," said Jacky Reynolds, tournament coordinator and U.K. Member of WPC.
Entry fee for the tournament is £50. Single table satellites will also be offered at Grosvenor Casino on the morning of the main tournament for a £5 or £10 entry.
"The time has come for women to step away from their computers and experience the environment of a live casino," said Dawn Dineen, tournament coordinator and WPC member. "All women should look forward to a brilliant weekend of poker."
North America women can also win their way to the U.K. event by participating in online satellite events awarding prize packages, including travel expenses.
"We welcome and encourage all women players to join the tournament competition and experience what is guaranteed to be a fabulous time," said Mayrann Morrison, founder of WPC.
