WCOOP H.O.R.S.E. event won by pro
By Lianne Elias
Pro player Chad "stelladora" Brown beat a star-studded field of 175 players in Event 16 of the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Sept. 30.
Brown, who is host of the Ultimate Poker Challenge television series, beat top player and Team PokerStars member Isabelle "No Mercy" Mercier and superstar Todd "Sam Grizzle" Brunson during final table play to take his prize of $223,125.
At $5,000, the H.O.R.S.E. event boasted the biggest buy-in of the 2006 WCOOP. It also offered the smallest guaranteed prize pool - $100,000. However, come tournament day, the prize pool rocketed to $875,000 and first place was guaranteed a payoff more than twice as large as the entire tournament guarantee.
Brown is a gifted tournament player who has cashed in more than 10 WSOP events, and who rarely competes online.
"I don't normally play online, but, because of this event, you got me," he told PokerStars.com. "I play in only $5,000 and higher tourneys."
Final table results are as follows:
