WCOOP Day 19: Greece, Czech and Lebanon Win First Bracelets
Greece, the Czech Republic and Lebanon all won their first bracelets on Day 19 of the 2011 World Championship of Online Poker.
Headlining the trio of new champions is Lebanon’s Nicolas “niccc” Chouity. He took down the EPT Grand Final in 2010 for €1.7 million and scored another six figures yesterday, along with his first WCOOP bracelet.
Chouity’s victory was just one of a pair of six-figure paydays on PokerStars.com yesterday as the 2011 World Championship of Online Poker prepared for its final weekend.
WCOOP-52: $320 NL Hold’em
Thanks to 1,771 players this event put together a total prize pool of $531,300, and although it was the smallest of the day’s three first-place prizes this bracelet carried a still-hefty $85,008.
That sum went to Demokritos09 from Greece, the first of three countries to win their first WCOOP bracelet. Telefonkiosk from Sweden finished second and pocketed $63,756.
All told 234 players got paid, including Kyle “Murphdawg10” McMurphy (13th), Liv Boeree in (54th) and Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee (91st). MacPhee is currently second on the 2011 WCOOP Tournament Leaderboard.
WCOOP-53: $530+R NL Hold’em
Close to $1 million was in the prize pool for this mid-level re-buy tournament, with $160,558 reserved for first. That was thanks to 652 runners who bought 753 rebuys and 512 add-ons.
Vinkyy from the Czech Republic was the last man standing, earning his first win and third cash of the 2011 WCOOP. He defeated Skilled G from Argentina heads-up who took home $148,558 after a two-way deal was agreed upon.
Continuing his hot WCOOP run was Daniel Negreanu who made it to the final four tables before hitting the rail in 34th.
Joel Adam “2FLY2TILT” Gordon notched another cash, further extending his lead on the 2011 WCOOP Tournament Leaderboard.
WCOOP-54: $2,100 PL Omaha [6-Max]
This high-buy-in PLO event attracted 418 players and built a total prize pool of $836,000, close to double the $450k guarantee. 2010 EPT Grand Final champion Nicolas “niccc” Chouity came out on top, earning $150,947.
Chouity made a deal heads-up with beastishngry from Hungary who took down $139,980 for second place.
Also cashing was 2010 world champion Jon Duhamel finished in 17th for $7,942, 2010 Cardplayer Player of the Year Tom “kingsofcards” Marchese finished 44th and James “Andy McLEOD” Obst (48th).
