Day 1 of the 2012 World Championship of Online Poker is in the books with nearly 20,000 players taking part in the first two events.

Event 1 $215 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Max drew 7,322 players while Event 2 $215 No-Limit Hold’em attracted a staggering 10,608 players.

Both tournaments were too big to be played out in one day so we’re still awaiting our first winner of the 2012 WCOOP.

Below is a closer look at the first day of WCOOP action this year.

WCOOP-1: $215 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Max

The first event of the 2012 WCOOP saw 7,322 players register to create a guarantee-busting prizepool of $1.4 million.

Johnny Lodden, Christian “el grillo” De Leon, Marcin “Goral” Horecki and Grzegorz “DaWarsaw” Mikielewicz were among the numerous Team PokerStars Pros who made the money.

The tournament took place at a blistering pace and when Day 1 drew to a close there were only 64 players remaining.

Some of the notables still gunning for the $219,663 first-place prize include Jim “Mr_BigQueso” Collopy, Clayton “slammedfire” Mozdzen and last Canadian standing at the recent 2012 WSOP Main Event Marc-Andre “FrenchDawg” Ladocouceur.

Action resumes in this event at 11:00 ET today.

WCOOP-2: $215 No-Limit Hold’em

The second event of the 2012 WCOOP was an absolute monster with 10,608 players creating a $2.1 million prizepool with $302,969 set aside for first place alone.

Victor Ramdin, Humberto Brenes and Mickey "mement_mori" Petersen all made the money in WCOOP-2 before being eliminated.

A total of 133 players survived the day with Sandra Naujoks, Ben “KidCardiff6” Warrington and Max Bracht still in it to win it.

German online player Mr-MMuerte is the overnight chip leader with 4,181,835 chips.
