VIP Poker freeroll earns Portuguese man Aussie Millions seat

A freeroll win at VIP Poker is sending a 31-year-old Portuguese accountant to compete at the Aussie Millions next month.

Nuno S. won the $12,000 Aussie Millions Freeroll at the online poker room last week, which buys him an event seat at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia. The amateur player will also receive airfare, accommodation and spending money.

The feeling of winning his way to Australia by playing poker is second only to the birth of his daughter, Nuno S. said in a release.

"It's a great prize, and it's even greater because it was won at a freeroll," he said. "I was very, very, very happy. It was an incredible sensation."

The Marinha Grande, Portugal, native has only been playing poker for two and a half years. He took up the game after watching televised tournaments and started competing in low-limit and sit-and-go events as a hobby.

"It's the opportunity of a lifetime," said Nuno S. of the upcoming tournament.

Indeed, last year's Aussie Millions winner walked away with more than $1 million in prize money. VIP Poker manager John Olsen said it is exciting to give a real poker enthusiast such an opportunity.

"His excitement is contagious," he said. "Everyone here at Poker will definitely be rooting for him at the Aussie Millions."
