Published on 19 July 2013 by Pokerlistings 624 gets to know Mark Newhouse after he made the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event final table. Originally from North Carolina, Newhouse has been making a living for years playing live cash games at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles.

Mark: Making it to number nine, it's like a dream. I always go into playing every tournament confident and thinking I'm going to win but you don't actually realize that it can actually happen every single time where you actually get down there. Making it to number nine I don't know if it's fully hit me yet. But it's great I'm sure it's going to change my life.

I'm originally from North Carolina. I started playing poker on the internet. Ran it up, came out as soon as I turned 21 came out take a trip to the Commerce Casino started playing high stakes limit hold 'em. Went to my first World Series of Poker final table the limit Hold 'em event and decided to make a trip to Atlantic City to play the Borgata Poker up in 2006, ended up winning that been on the tournament scene ever since then where I was traveling playing tournaments for awhile. In recent times, I've been mostly playing cash games and sticking between L.A. and Vegas. Not playing a whole lot of tournaments but obviously coming out for the big ones like this Main Event. Basically had a lot of money at one point don't now, things are looking up.

I'm short stacked. So gotta go in, I'm going to need to double up. Start out, just try to play in the beginning I have no chips. So maybe try to move up a couple of spots in money try to play super solid look for a spot to double up and once I'm able to accumulate some chips then start putting pressure on people and try to win the thing.

After I won the tournament in 2006 had a lot of money made every mistake you can make. Was not really in a great frame of mind to succeed in the poker world. Sometimes you really almost have to reach a bottom in order to change yourself and realize the things you're doing wrong and what you need to change. I'm very happy that I'm given another chance here. This tournament gets me out of debt. Gives me some freedom and now I have to figure out what I want to do with my life.

Interviewer: You have any ideas?

Mark: I'm clueless. I'll figure it out as I go along.
