The 2015 Battle of Malta is over and BOM Host Maria Ho is here to give you an inside look at Europe's best low buy-in poker tournament. With an extra Day 1 this year's Battle of Malta attracted 1,804 entries, breaking its own record for the biggest poker tournament ever held in Malta and maintaining the distinction of the biggest stand-alone poker tournament anywhere in Europe. Maria Ho returned as host and did an amazing job of interacting with fans and players, hitting all three BOM parties and presenting all the winners with their trophies. Also in attendance were big-name poker players including Thor Hansen, Humberto Brenes, Andreas Hoivold, Sofia Lovgren, Fatima Moreira de Melo, Anatoly Filatov and more. Check out the video to see tons of footage as the Battle of Malta played down to a final table over five days of poker and ultimately ended in a chop between France's Nicolas Proust, Holland's Hendrick Koops and Norway's Henrik Jacobsen with Proust coming out on top to claim the first-place trophy and the title of Battle of Malta champion. You'll also get a behind-the-scenes peek at three awesome parties that went down on three consecutive nights during the tournament. Make sure to watch all the Battle of Malta videos and if you love fun, high-value live poker tournaments, consider joining us next year for the 2016 Battle of Malta.
This year's Battle of Malta came back bigger and better than ever and it broke its own record for the biggest poker tournament ever held in Malta.
This was the Battle of Malta's fourth year at the Portomaso Casino and every year the numbers have gone up and the atmosphere has become even more electric.
This year we added a third starting day and attracted an amazing one thousand, eight hundred and four entries. That's up 25 per cent over 2014.
All those extra entries meant even more money in the prize pool and a huge 165,000 euro first-place prize to go along with the best trophy in the poker world.
It took five full days of poker to chop the field down to the ten players who earned seats at the final table and it was Israel's Uri Gilboa who came into the finale as chip leader.
When it got three-handed the final three players agreed on a chop where everyone would score a six-figure payday. Hendrick Koops from the Netherlands took home the biggest piece, and it's a good thing because he was the first to bust.
Nicholas Proust from France and Henrik Jacobsen from Norway went toe-to-toe heads-up for an extra 10,000 euros and the official title of Battle of Malta champion.
In the end it was Nicholas Proust who came out on top but it's safe to say both players had the time of their lives!
This year's main event was massive but it wasn't the only thing happening at the Battle of Malta. Five exciting side events played out, giving everyone who busted the main a shot at redemption. The tournament room was buzzing and tons of players left with cash prizes and awesome trophies.
People come to Battle of Malta mainly to play poker but the truth is, the parties are a close second. And this year it wasn't just the Main Event that got bigger.
The Battle of Malta hosted three parties on three consecutive nights, kicking off with the chilled-out BOM Cocktail party ... ramping up the action with All-In Friday at Club 22 ... and reaching absolute madness with the Official BOM VIP Player Party.
That's it for another Battle of Malta and another unforgettable experience at one of the most beautiful spots on the Mediterranean.
