Published on 4 November 2015 by Pokerlistings 744
The 2015 Battle of Malta is officially underway and BOM Host Maria Ho treated the crowd to a short rundown of the event's history before announcing shuffle up and deal. Escorted by six gladiator knights, Maria made her way into the tournament room and explained how Battle of Malta went from a modest 349-player affair to Europe's best low buy-in poker tournament.'s vision for BOM was to create an affordable, accessible and fun event that allowed recreational players to experience what it's like to play in a major world-class poker tournament. BOM's growth has proved that poker players share that vision. A big part of the event's success has come from the cooperation of our generous sponsors, the Portomaso Casino, Hilton Malta, the Malta Tourism Authority, the local poker and business communities and players from all over Europe. Check out the video to learn more about the Battle of Malta's roots and stay tuned for tons more BOM video over the next five days.
Hi everyone! Welcome to the Battle of Malta 2015!

I'm Maria Ho and I'm so happy to be back for my second year hosting Europe's best low buy-in poker event! Thank you all for being here and I want to tell you right now, we're going to have a blast over the next five days!

Before we get started I'd like to say a few words to let you all know how the Battle of Malta began and grew into the awesome event you all came here to play.

Malta has had a really strong poker community for a long time but it didn’t have a showcase, standalone, low buy-in event that could unite the local scene and bring people here from all over Europe and beyond to play poker.

In 2012 the first Battle of Malta was an ambitious idea and when 349 players bought in we were thrilled to see so many people take part. At the time it was hard to believe that three years later this event would draw an expected 2,000 players!

In 2014 the Battle of Malta beat its own record for the biggest poker tournament ever held in Malta with 1,447 entries and won the European Poker Award for the best low buy-in event in Europe.

Our vision for the Battle of Malta was to create a poker tournament that was affordable, accessible and felt like a major poker tour experience but was still, above all, fun.

The event's success has proven that poker players share our vision, too, and we couldn't have done it without the support of the Portomaso Casino, Hilton Malta, the Malta Tourism Authority, our generous sponsors, the local business community and media and players and, of course, all of you.

This year we're so proud to welcome back the players who have been here before, and to say hello to all the new faces here for the first time.

We have a spectacular five days in store here in one of the most beautiful spots in Europe.

We're going to play some great poker, hit some awesome parties and some of you will leave here with some serious cash. But again, most of all we hope you leave here with memories of great fun shared by great friends, old and new, who share a love for the game of poker.

We'd like to thank our platinum sponsors: 888, NordicBet, Betsafe and Betsson, our Silver Sponsor: RedBet, our Classic Sponsors: NetBet, Paf, Domient and Planet365 and our new casino sponsors: Mr. Green, Ladbrokes and Guts.
