The first bracelet event of the 2013 World Series of Poker is over and Australian 888poker pro Jackie Glazier is in the winner's circle. Glazier has come close before but can now call herself a WSOP champion. She won the first-ever WSOPE Ladies Event and €21,850. We've got the video of her victory, winner interview and bracelet ceremony right here on PokerListings.com.
Matt: Welcome back to WSOP Europe. It's day three and we've got our first gold bracelet winner, Team 888poker's Jackie Glazier.
It was the first time that WSOPE has ever hosted a ladies event. And even though the field was small, some of the most successful females in poker were in on the action. Seven spots got paid and the first player to bust in the money was France's Gaëlle Baumann. Ultimately it came down to Glazier and Marylin Valente [SP]. Glazier had been there before having finished runner-up in an open WSOP event in 2012. This time, her experience paid off.
Jackie: I'm just so honored to have this title. After being the last one standing in the World Series and then to come here to Europe and actually win the first ever ladies event in the World Series of Europe, I'm honored and obviously beside myself with happiness. It's great.
I actually had this attitude from the start that I was going to win this tournament. My husband is like a sports psychology coach and he kept saying, "You cannot have this attitude for poker," but yesterday I went and bought a bottle of champagne and I put it on ice ready to go. So just from the start, I had it in my mind I was going to take this down.
This victory was really sweet and I suppose even getting to heads up and being so even in chips, the nerves are there as well because I just think I'm not sure how I'll cope with another near miss. I'm just so excited to finally get there, and it's the first of many I hope. It's just gonna make me strive harder to win more.
I think being a woman playing in poker and having an event like this available to play in, maybe get more exposure out there for other women to see that there's ladies out there having fun and playing poker. Hopefully it inspires them to get out there and play more cards.
Male: Please welcome to the stage, the inaugural 2013 WSOP Europe gold bracelet winner from Australia, Jackie "Jackstar" Glazier.
Jackie: Firstly I'd really like to mention my amazing sponsors, 888poker. If it wasn't for them, I don't think I'd have this opportunity to actually be here and achieve this amazing dream that I've had. Secondly I'd like to say to all women out there, if you think you can do this, you really can. And also I would like to say how overwhelmed I've been by all the support that's ever since my deep run in the WSOP. It's really pushed me to try harder and to actually get this. The support of my husband, and my family and friends at home as well has been amazing. WSOP, you guys are all amazing staff and everyone that runs this. It's just an incredible honor to have this bracelet.
