Things got real last night at the 2013 PokerListings Battle of Malta VIP party and our video crew was there to catch it all on camera. The Dudesons, Puma Swede, Dan "Jungleman12" Cates and hundreds of poker players all got away from the poker tables to de-stress and enjoy a few adult beverages.
The Battle of Malta is about way more than just poker and today we took the infamous Dudesons and Swedish adult film star Puma Swede out in a brand-new Sunseeker sport yacht. We hit the islands of Comino and Gozo for some sun, cliff-jumping and wakeboarding before the poker tournament got underway.
The 2013 Battle of Malta is the biggest poker tournament ever held in Malta, more than doubling the €200k guarantee, and that's thanks in large part to event organizer Ivonne Monteleagre. We speak to the woman behind this event and she tells us why organizing a record-setting poker tournament brings her so much satisfaction.
Jukka Hilden, part of the infamous Dudesons from Finland, is still alive at the final two tables of the 2013 Battle of Malta. Hilden told us he doesn't know much about poker but judging by how he's playing at the table we're inclined not to believe him. Jukka is the rockstar of the Dudesons and tells us about poker, his philosophy on life and what he's been up to at the Battle of Malta.
Day 2 of the 2013 Battle of Malta saw the field cut down to the final 24 and we focused our attention on one of those players in particular. Jukka Hilden, part of the infamous Dudesons crew, is still alive in the event, gunning for a spot at the final table. The PokerListings video crew follows the Dudesons at the tournament plus takes them wakeboarding and cliffjumping on the island of Gozo.
Belgium's Pierre Neuville won the PokerListings Spirit of Poker Award in the "This is 50+" category for proving that success at the poker table has nothing to do with age. Neuville played his first poker tournament all the way back in the 1960s and turned 70 earlier this year while attending the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. BOM host Kara Scott speaks to Neuville about what this award means to him.
Italian young-gun Luca Moschitta won the PokerListings Spirit of Poker Award in the "Here Comes the Future" category for best representing a brand new generation of poker players. Moschitta has already won an event on the Italian Poker Tour, and was one of the youngest players to ever achieve Supernova Elite status on PokerStars. BOM host Kara Scott speaks to Moschitta about what this award means to him.
Day 1B at the 2013 Battle of Malta is over and the final numbers are spectacular. 888 entries absolutely crushed the €200k guarantee, but that wasn't the only exciting thing happening at the Portomaso Casino. Naoya Kihara, Pierre Neuville and Luca Moschitta all received their PokerListings Spirit of Poker Awards, and we caught the whole thing on camera.
This is the second annual Battle of Malta and it's the second time Kara Scott has been gracious enough to host the event. Malta is one of her favorite places on earth and she tells us why she loves the island, and the Battle of Malta, in this new video interview.
