Battle of Malta Day 1A Sets Stage for Epic Week of Poker and Parties

The first of three Day 1 flights is over at the Battle of Malta and BOM Host Maria Ho is here to give you a taste of the action. A little over 300 players turned out to test their mettle on the battlefield and they were greeted by a cadre of six knights escorting Maria into the tournament room to announce shuffle up and deal. The players proceeded to wage war over 12 long levels of poker as that original number was hacked down to just 98. Local Maltese player Alexander Kosholap finished the day at the top of the chip counts, faring far better than seasons veterans Andreas Hoivold, Humberto Brenes, Fabrice Soulier, Sofia Lovgren and Anatoly Filatov who all hit the rail before the day was done. Returning champion Alan Brincat also busted but, luckily for all those eliminated, they'll have the chance to re-enter on two more Day 1 heats. Check out the video to see what the Battle of Malta is all about and join us tomorrow for more action from Europe's best low buy-in poker tournament.
