Venetian Deep Stack II toe-to-toe with WSOP

A Whole Lotta Cash

They came out in force for Deep Stack Extravaganza I, to the tune of 4,700 players and $1.6 million in graft. So back by demand: Deep Stack Extravaganza II - this time cheek-by-jowl with the World Series of Poker, from June 1 to July 1.

"Designed to complement and run concurrently with the World Series of Poker," the second edition of the Deep Stack Extravaganza at the Venetian Poker Room in Las Vegas is set to begin June 1, with no qualms about running alongside its heavy-hitting competition.

"The idea of hosting the Deep Stack Extravaganza II," says Kathy Raymond, director of poker room operations at the Venetian, "was proposed by an overwhelming number of players from our first Deep Stack Extravaganza.

"The players were so excited about the structure of our tournaments that we had numerous requests to host another event. Players enjoy our tournament format because it offers the feel and experience of playing in a major tournament without the major buy-ins."

The exciting structure she mentions: Players start with a significant amount of chips compared to the buy-in (hence the "deep stack" part), with very generous blind structures and 40 or 60 minute levels.

On the agenda: No-Limit Hold'em, Omaha Eight-or-Better, Pot-Limit Omaha and H.O.R.S.E. tournaments throughout the month.

Placing in the money earns players cash, of course, but also points; the four players that earn the most points for the entire event will then get Best Overall Player cash awards ( with one-half of one percent withheld from each daily tournament added to the best overall player total prize pool).

Expected total prize pool for Deep Stack Extravaganza II, according to Raymond: upwards of $5 million.
