Vegas not just a dream for Ladbrokes players

Las Vegas Strip

The details of the 2009 World Series of Poker are out now, and Ladbrokes Poker has already stepped up to the plate to offer players a way to get to the events through online poker.

Rather than the usual WSOP Main Event packages, Ladbrokes Poker has something a little different to entice players with. Qualifiers have opened up for online poker players to win $5,000 Ladbrokes Vegas Dream packages.

The packages consist of:

  • Seven nights' accommodation at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas
  • $2,000 for expenses
  • Bankroll to play three Main Event satellites in Vegas for a shot at 20 Main Event seats. Two of those satellites will be exclusive to Ladbrokes Vegas Dream package winners
  • VIP status in the hottest nightclubs in Vegas
  • Legendary Ladbrokes Poker hospitality

"Our goal this year is to deliver the Vegas Dream to as many of our poker players as possible. Las Vegas is about more than just playing in the WSOP Main Event, there are so many other things to see, do and enjoy," said Edward Ihre, Ladbrokes Poker managing director.

Winners of the Vegas Dream packages will arrive in Las Vegas on June 27 and depart on July 4. During that time in Vegas, they'll be treated like VIPs, enjoying trademark Ladbrokes Poker hospitality at cardrooms such as Binion's Casino, the original home of the WSOP.

As Ihre explained, the goal is to give players the chance to enjoy everything about Vegas during the WSOP, as well as a chance to take part in the Main Event.

"We think we've got the balance just right - our customers will have a great time in Vegas courtesy of us and still have a chance to play live poker against other Laddies players to win one of our Main Event seats. If they win a seat into the Main Event, they can choose to take home the $10,000 or take a long shot at the big one."

According to Ladbrokes Poker, the decision to offer Vegas Dream packages instead of a straight Main Event package stems from a review that identified that the majority of WSOP qualifiers leave Las Vegas each year disappointed.

"The reality is that only 10% of players actually cash in the Main Event whereas the majority put in a lot of hours to come away with nothing," said the poker site.

At least this way, they'll get the full Vegas experience, and won't have to shell out that much money out of pocket to get it. For as little as $6, players can work their way into the weekly final through daily satellites.

The satellite system is set up as follows:

  • Step 1: Daily $6 satellites, with one player for every $60 in the prize pool qualifying for the daily final
  • Step 2: Daily Final, with one person for every $550 in the prize pool moving on to the weekly final
  • Step 3: Weekly Final, with one in 10 players winning a Ladbrokes Poker Vegas Dream package

The weekly finals take place on Wednesday.

The online poker site will also be handing out some more Ladbrokes Poker Vegas Dream packages during its Easter Rendezvous Festival in Brighton in April.

Ladbrokes Poker plans to add five Vegas Dream packages to the £100,000 main event. The poker site will also be handing out €1,000 packages for their Irish Poker Festival in Killarney to three side events of the Easter Rendezvous.

"It is our aim as always to offer unrivalled hospitality and added value to all of our players. Our offline events are about more than just the poker. We concentrate on delivering an all round fun experience for our players that sets us apart from other sites," Ihre said.

"Obviously poker play takes precedence, but the community and social aspect that we're renowned worldwide for, is always high up on our agenda."
