Vanessa Rousso wins $5,000 Borgata event

Vanessa Rousso

Vanessa Rousso topped a field of 317 players during the $5,000 buy-in No-Limit event at the Borgata Poker Open Sept. 14, earning more than $285,000. Her victory marks one of the largest cash prizes won by a female poker player and is the largest cash prize to date at the 2006 Borgata Poker Open.

The $5,000 event is the largest of the Borgata Poker Open aside from the World Poker Tour (WPT) main event. Vanessa Rousso dominated the event most of the day and when the final table was down to three, she took out Cliff Josephy, a top Internet pro from New York, and finished off Doran Malinasky for the win.

The other players who made the final table were Joe Sebok, Paul McCaffrey, Hasan Habib, Bill Blanda, Jamie Litigar, and Mike Appel.

"I can't believe I won this championship," Rousso said. "I travel all over with the World Poker Tour and Borgata is my favorite place to play. It has some of the greatest poker action and the best restaurants of any casino in the country."

The WPT main event started Friday and the final six players will face off today to determine the million dollar first-place winner who will also receive a Rolex watch and a $25,000 seat at the World Poker Tour Championship.
