Urbanovich Upsets Drinan for €572k in EPT Malta High Roller
Upstart Polish pro Dzmitry Urbanovich more than doubled his lifetime live tournament earnings by outlasting noted American pros Connor Drinan and Dani Stern in the first-ever EPT Malta €25k High Roller.
Urbanovich entered heads-up against Drinan with a nearly 2-1 chip disadvantage but quickly chipped his way back into contention before landing the knockout blow with pocket tens over Drinan’s pocket nines.
Urbanovich picked up €572k for the outright victory while Drinan, who famously busted the $1m buy-in One Drop with Aces vs. Aces, earned €397k for his efforts.
Finger, Stern Bust in Early Stages
German Martin Finger entered the final table as one of the clear favorites thanks to his numerous EPT cashes.
Unfortunately for Finger he couldn’t overcome a short stack and Urbanovich busted him in the early stages of the final table in eighth place.
Dani Stern, who starred in SpikeTV’s reality poker show 2m2mm, lost a pivotal coin flip with pocket nines to ace-jack to bust in fifth place.
The €166,000 payout was actually the second biggest of Stern’s live career.
With the victory Urbanovich soared to fourth place all-time on the Polish money leaders with only heavyweights like Dominik Panka and Marcin Horecki ahead of him.
The EPT’s first event in Malta attracted 68 players with 20 re-entries to create a prize pool of €2.1 million with 13 places getting paid.
