UPC: 'Claims of our demise unfounded and untrue'

By Erik Sylven

Ultimate Poker Challenge (UPC) officials strongly deny reports about the show's demise. Rita Hawn, production manager for UPC, says there are no plans to cancel the show.

Recent reports have claimed the demise of the UPC as a result of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). In a press release on the official homepage, UPC writes these claims are "unfounded and untrue."

Production manager Rita Hawn has a theory about how these false rumors got started:

"This is all pure conjecture based on a handwritten sign hanging at Binion's stating that the UPC weekly tournaments have been temporarily cancelled," said Hawn in the press release.

"The reason we cancelled them is that we have 28 episodes sitting in our production office waiting to be edited and televised. We have, right now, enough UPC episodes to last 14 weeks."

"Our advertisers are in place for the near future and we have no plans to cancel our show," Hawn continued.

This past January, UPC began airing its new television series UPC Cash Poker.

"Cash Poker tapes every three weeks at Binion's. We have absolutely no plans whatsoever of halting production of Cash Poker," said Rita Hawn.
