The inaugural edition of PokerStars UK and Ireland Poker Tour Edinburgh has officially started at the Corn Exchange.

Day 1a of the tournament saw 168 players enter the £550 No-Limit Hold'em tournament. Of that number a whooping 79 qualified on PokerStars.

Notable players in the field include recent GUKPT Luton winner Neil Channing, Marc Goodwin, Thomas Cibek, Christopher Brammer and Jamie Burland.

This is the first time the UKIPT has ventured into Scotland and the tournament will run for a total of four days, including two Day 1s, with the final table scheduled for Aug. 22.

Edinburgh's world-famous Fringe Festival is currently running parallel to the tournament and interested poker players will be able to check out the various acts and performances.

Players can still buy into Day 1b by using their PokerStars accounts and navigating to the qualifiers tab in the lobby. Alternatively players can simply buy in at any Grosvenor or G Casino in the UK. Rooms are still available through UKIPT Hotels.

Visit the UKIPT website for more information.
