UFC champion Georges “Rush” St-Pierre has become 888.com’s newest global ambassador.

The French-Canadian MMA superstar signed a 12-month contract with the online gaming company that commenced in March and will see St-Pierre attend live events like the 2012 World Series of Poker and the 888 Superstack.

GSP will also be playing special online poker events at 888poker to raise money for anti-bullying causes.

"I am very excited to become a global brand ambassador for Team 888poker,” said St-Pierre.

“I have wanted to play poker for a while now as it is a great game of skill. It is not just your cards versus my cards; it is you versus your opponent,” GSP continued.

“However, the most important aspect of my partnership with 888poker is that we are going to generate a great deal of money for my foundation that dedicates its efforts towards anti-bullying causes,” he said.

St-Pierre is one of the most dominant MMA fighters of all time with a professional record of 22 wins and 2 losses. He’s won two MMA World Championship titles and holds the record for the most consecutive title defenses ever in his weight class.

As a member of Team 888, St-Pierre will play a key role in the online gaming company’s marketing strategy in 2012 and 2013.

“The partnership agreement with Georges St-Pierre will strengthen our brand awareness around the globe and introduce 888 to the growing sport of MMA and its fans,” said Senior 888 Vice President Itai Pazner.

“It is exciting to have this international sports celebrity on board with us,” Pazner continued.

GSP’s addition to Team 888 is the latest in a long history of overlap between MMA and poker, one that includes WSOP appearances by St-Pierre’s fellow UFC fighters Chuck Lidell, Forrest Griffin and Mike Swick.
