Tureniec Takes Down EPT Copenhagen

Swede Michael Tureniec's career appears back on track after a massive win in Denmark this weekend.

After bursting onto the live poker scene with a second-place finish in the 2008 EPT London main event and posting some decent results in 2009, the 25-year-old Full Tilt Pro had an off year in 2010.

But just two months into 2011 he turned things around with a victory at EPT Copenhagen this weekend, collecting a career best score of DKK 3,700,000 (approximately €496,271) in the process.

The Stockholm native beat fellow Swede Per Linde heads-up and a final table that included Finnish poker great Juha Helppi to take the title.

He now has more than $2.5 million in career live tournament earnings.

“I’m feeling very happy," Tureniec said. "It’s been a good day. I’m glad I managed to win against such tough opponents. I’m very proud. It’s such a tough field here with a lot of Scandinavian players. My plan now is to first get a driver’s license, then get a nice car.”

A total of 449 players entered the EPT Copenhagen main event in the Danish Capital, 141 of whom won their seat on PokerStars.

2008 WSOP main event champion Peter Eastgate ended his brief retirement from poker returning home to play the event as well.

“Yet again EPT Copenhagen has proved a massive success and, as always, a huge number of Scandinavian players took part," said EPT spokesperson Kirsty Thompson.

"This made for a very exciting five days leading up to a world-class final table. Congratulations are due to all those who made the money, especially our winner Michael Tureniec and PokerStars qualifier Kevin Iacofano, who came fourth earning more than €130,000 after winning his seat in a €215 satellite.”

Next up on the PokerStars European Poker Tour is EPT Snowfest event in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria March 20-25, 2011.
