Trump Atlantic City casino dealers unionize

Dealer at the finaltable

Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino is the latest Atlantic City gambling hall to see its dealers vote for unionization. Two-thirds of its dealers voted in favor of joining the United Auto Workers union Saturday, on the heels of their counterparts at Caesars Palace.

The dealers voted 324 to 149 in favor of unionizing, despite the efforts of the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation to block the vote by filing an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board Friday.

The organization alleges that a U.S. congressman tampered with the election to aid union officials in influencing employees to join the United Auto Workers (UAW).

Nonetheless, the vote has passed and the UAW has filed paperwork with the labor board seeking certification for unionization at Atlantic City's Trump Marina Hotel Casino.

"The election victory is superb news for Trump Plaza dealers and all Atlantic City dealers," UAW Secretary-Treasurer Elizabeth Bunn told the Associated Press.

"We look forward to bargaining with Trump Plaza management to secure a great first contract that benefits casino workers and the gaming industry in New Jersey."
