Trio of pros set to play Irish Winter Festival
Three of the U.K.'s most well-known players have committed to playing in the paddypowerpoker.com Irish Masters this winter.
Andy Black, Marty Smyth and Neil Channing will all be joining Ciaran O'Leary at the Irish Masters. The €1,500+€150 No-Limit Hold'em tournament, which headlines the Irish Winter Festival, is scheduled to run from Saturday Oct. 25 to Monday Oct. 27.
Of the three, Black is probably the best-known, as he tops the all-time Irish money list, with lifetime tournament winnings totaling nearly $4 million.
Black's most publicized cash was when he came in sixth at the 2005 WSOP Main Event final table and ended up finishing sixth for $1.75 million. Earlier this year Black finally put a history of final-table meltdowns behind him by winning the PartyPoker.com Premier League.
Smyth is quickly becoming a legend on the Irish Poker scene as well. Smyth won the 2007 Irish Open for $867,546 and then followed that victory up with wins at the PartyPoker.com World Open IV and the 2008 WSOP. Smyth won $859,549 for coming in first at the 2008 WSOP $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Omaha event. He is currently second, just behind Black, with $2,654,438 on the all-time Ireland money list.
Londoner Channing has also put together an incredible run of tournament cashes including first place at the 2008 Irish Open, second place at the PartyPoker.com World Open IV (right behind Smyth), seven cashes at the 2008 WSOP and most recently two cashes at the 2008 WSOPE, including a final-table appearance.
Paddypowerpoker.com pro Ciaran O'Leary needs no introduction as he outlasted nearly 3,000 other players to take down $725,000 for winning one of the largest $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em events ever held at the WSOP.
The paddypowerpoker.com Irish Winter Festival will feature three events with buy-ins ranging from €220 to €1,650 for the main event.
