Looking back on 2010 and its long list of poker millionaires brings just one emotion to mind: Jealousy.
We're all haters at heart and the bigger someone's success, the more we gonna hate. Now we look at the top 6 people who deserve our begrudging congratulations.
The top 6 biggest poker tournament wins of 2010!
#6 Partouche Poker Tour Main Event - $1,823,430 – Vanessa Selbst
One of the biggest news stories of the year was the cheating scandal that rocked the Partouche Poker Tour’s main event final table.
Almost lost in the s**t-storm was Vanessa Selbst’s massive $1.8 million score.
Selbst capped off one of the best years we’ve ever seen, one that included a win on the NAPT and an EPT High Roller title!
#5 Aussie Millions Main Event - $ 1,845,921 – Tyron Krost
Australians are a competitive group so it meant something to Tyron Krost when he won the 2010 Aussie Millions and kept the title on home soil for another year. The more than $1.8 million wasn’t bad either.
The premier poker event in the southern hemisphere, the Aussie Millions attracts rounders from all over the world. In 2010 a total of 746 played in the main event.
Krost had to earn that $1.8 million, battling the likes of Sorel Mizzi, Annette Obrestad and Peter Jetten at the final table.
#4 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event - $2,200,000 – Harrison Gimbel
Harrison Gimbel became the youngest person to ever win the PCA when he took down $2.2 million at the beginning of 2010. At just 19 years old Gimbel was, and still is, too young to play live in the US.
Gimbel beat a tough final table including online MTT legend Ryan “g0lfa” D’Angelo and poker media magnate Barry Shulman to get that life-changing paper.
After all, no trip to the Bahamas is complete without becoming an overnight millionaire.
#3 EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final - $2,263,166 - Nicolas Chouity
Lebanese-born Nicolas Chouity's poker earnings absolutely sky-rocketed with his win at the EPT Grand Final in 2010. Having only a few small cashes on his record previous to his performance in Monte Carlo, Chouity was awarded €1,700,000!
The Grand Final is always tough as Europe's best are joined by top pros from all over the world.
Chouity earned himself a spot in the EPT history books as just the second player from Lebanon to ever win a major event.
#2 PokerStars WCOOP Main Event - $2,278,097 – Tyson Marks aka “POTTERPOKER”
Tyson Mark’s multi-million dollar score at the 2010 WCOOP main event was the biggest tourney score in the history of online poker.
With 2,443 players coughing up $5,200 each the prize pool was a staggering $12,215,000!
Check out this quality post Tyson did for PokerStars Blog, detailing his win and providing some background info on himself!
#1 WSOP 2010 Main Event – $8,944,138 – Jonathan Duhamel
The Main Event at the World Series of Poker is always the biggest tournament of the year and it’s not even close. In fact, the top five spots at the Big Dance pay more than every other score on this list.
2010 was an historic year for the WSOP as the first Canadian ever, Jonathan Duhamel, took down the title of world champion and almost $9 million!
There’s a reason this prize is so big. Duhamel had to wade through 7,310 people just to get to the final table. Once there he faced one of the toughest FT line-ups we’ve ever seen at the World Series.
