'Tis the season for giving at Casino Arizona
By Sarah Polson
Now that Christmas is only a few short weeks away, the spirit of giving is already in the air. With that in mind, Casino Arizona is hosting a special tournament that will collect toys instead of cash as the usual buy-in Dec. 15.
The event is the annual Christmas Toy Drive No-Limit Hold'em Tournament that collects toys to distribute to the local community.
"Casino Arizona places great importance on giving back to the community, and the Toy Drive Tournament is a wonderful way for our guests to get involved," said Kent Odekirk, Casino Arizona poker director. "We could not be more appreciative of their generosity each year."
The new, unwrapped toys will go to the children of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
"Last year, we were able to donate 1,000 toys to the community thanks to the many players who participated in the Christmas Toy Drive Tournament," Odekirk said. "We hope and expect to exceed that number this year."
The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. (MST) Dec. 15 at the Casino Arizona 101 and Indian Bend Poker Room. The buy-in will be the one new toy worth at least $10, plus a $25 service fee.
For adding a little joy to a child's holiday season, the players will also get a shot at a little extra cheer of their own. The Casino is putting up a guaranteed prize pool of $12,500.
The winner will receive $3,100, with the top 40 players being paid.
Players can begin signing up for the tournament at the poker cage Dec. 10.
