Timex Tops partypoker Million $25k HR, Main Event Breaks Records
Mike “Timex” McDonald, one of Canada's all-time biggest winners on the international poker circuit, finally won a major title on his home turf.
McDonald outlasted 53-entries to win a last-minute $25,000 buy-in high roller at the partypoker Million North America festival at Playground Poker Club in Montreal over the weekend.
The Waterloo native beat fellow Canadian Marc-Olivier Carpentier-Perrault heads-up to take down the CAD $200k first-place prize for first.
McDonald now has over $13.2m in lifetime live tournament earnings and trails only Jonathan Duhamel and Daniel Negreanu on the all-time Canadian earners list.
Main Event Draws Record 1,168 Players
It’s safe to say the North American edition of the partypoker Million is a success with 1,168 entries, which is a new record for Canadian poker tournaments.
The record number of entries helped the prize pool well to CAD $5.7m, which easily surpassed the $5m guarantee.
A total of 119 spots will pay with $1m set aside for first place in the contest.
Day 3 of the contest kicks off today with 177 survivors looking to parlay their way into the money.
Ema Zajmovic (15m chips), Sam Trickett (12.2m) and Jason Koon (10m) are just a few of the notable pros near the top of the chip counts.
The aforementioned McDonald is still live in the Main Event as well with 5m chips and has the chance to go back-to-back at the North American Million.
Action resumes at noon today local time. You can follow along via the partypoker live updates.
Big PowerFest Overlay for Players
While the partypoker Million was busy breaking guarantees in North America, the online site was providing a little extra value for players.
Event 13 of PowerFest, a $215 No-Limit Hold’em tournament, fell slightly short of the $1m guarantee prize pool, attracting 3,354 entries.
The tournament ending up offering an overlay worth over $300k in value.
Online player jayser1337 took advantage of the extra value and snatched the first-place prize for $140,400.
There’s a good chance online grinders will be taking an extra close look at the rest of the PowerFest schedule to try and find some more value spots.
PowerFest runs from now until May 21. You can view the complete PowerFest schedule here (along with SCOOP and XL-Inferno).
