Tiffany Michelle wins R2R Charity Tournament
By Sean Lind
After the success of its online fundraiser, hosted by Full Tilt, Road 2 Recovery is happy to announce that its live tournament hosted by the MGM Grand was another fund-raising success.
The charity event raised over $43,000, with 67 players and fans paying $300 for a seat in the action. The real money came from the unlimited $100 rebuy option, with Layne Flack setting a record of 23 re-donations. The eventual winner, Tiffany Michelle, took second place for total re-donations, with 19.
The celebrity event presented by Toyota Trucks attracted a whole crew of celebrities, Motocross riders and professional poker players. The event was hosted by former rider Jimmy Button and poker pro Jeff Madsen, and Jamie Gold and Robert Williamson III acted as the emcees.
Road 2 Recovery is an organization dedicated to helping AMA Motocross and Supercross riders who sustain career-ending injuries to rebuild their lives. Jimmy Button founded R2R after his own post-crash recuperation.
The big poker names to attend the event included Layne Flack, Jon Friedberg, James Mordue, Hoyt Corkins, Todd Brunson, Jennifer Harman, Marco Traniello, Karina and Chip Jett, Adam Schoenfeld, Maria Ho, Brandon Cantu and Tiffany Michelle.
The final table featured Tiffany Michelle, Brandon Cantu, Jeff Madsen, James Mordue, Adam Schoenfeld, Lonny Flack (Layne's brother), Matt Lindsey, Curtis Cunningham, Dana K. and Ari Pace.
The MX fans were no match for the poker professionals on the final table, with Jeff Madsen and Tiffany Michelle getting down to heads-up. The tournament was all over when Michelle woke up to pocket aces and a push by Madsen.
Madsen was unable to catch up, giving Tiffany Michelle the win, and the first-place prize: a $10,000 entry into the 2009 WSOP Main Event ... along with a spiffy watch from Curtis & Co., a 22-lb crystal trophy, and accommodations at the fabulous MGM Grand Las Vegas.
