Three men face 130 charges in poker game robbery
By Sarah Polson
Three men suspected of robbing a poker game at the Thornhill Social Club in Toronto early Wednesday morning were arrested early Thursday morning and will face 130 different charges including robbery, forcible confinement, discharging a firearm and attempted murder.
The men, Omar Jermaine Betty and Ryan Shields of Toronto and Ezra Lottery of London, Ont., are accused of robbing a poker game at the social club at approximately 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. They shot a gun into the ceiling, grabbed the cash off the poker tables and ran.
Police responded to the club just as the robbers were leaving the scene and ended up in a high-speed pursuit of the suspects, one of which fired a handgun at the police officers during the chase.
The police had to call off the chase because of the potential danger to other motorists, but later found the getaway vehicle and from that were able to track down the men believed to be involved in the incident.
Two of the suspects were arrested around 7:30 a.m. Thursday in Toronto and the third was arrested at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday in London. They will appear in court in Toronto today.
