Thang Does His Thing at Unibet Open Valencia

Unibet Open Valencia champ Thomas Thang.

The president of the Danish Poker Federation took down the Unibet Open Valencia main event this weekend.

The €1,500 tournament drew 361 players to the Casino CIRSA Valencia on Spain's East Coast over two starting days.

But in the end, Thomas Thang outlasted them all to take the title and €138,080 first-place prize.

"I'm feeling great," Thang told Unibet staff. "There's always a bit of luck involved, but in the end the best players win."

Thang took control four-handed when his big slick held up against Belgian Atanas Gueorguiev's weaker ace to drag a massive pot.

In fact, his lead was so large after the hand, the tournament ended within one level.

Andreas Hofmann made things interesting when he busted Spain's Jose Diez third to get heads-up within reach of Thang.

However, the German had to settle for second when his ace-ten did not connect against Thang's eights.

Thang's previous best live result was a €5,631 win in a €300 Turbo event at EPT Vilamoura last month.

He is currently working with the Danish Poker Federation and the International Poker Federation to get poker declared a mind sport.

The next Unibet Open event will run in London, England Dec. 4-7.

Here's how the final table wrapped up in Valencia:

1 Thomas Thang €138,080

2 Andreas Hofmann €89,350

3 Jose Diez €59,560

4 Atanas Gueorguiev €43,320
