Team to fight ban of online gambling sponsor on shirts

By Sarah Polson

Bundesliga, the German soccer club, is taking on the Federal Constitutional Court because of a ban that doesn't allow the team Werder Bremen to wear the bwin.com sponsorship logo on their shirts.

A few weeks ago, the Federal Constitutional Court, Germany's highest court, enforced a ban placed by the city state of Bremen which doesn't allow the promotion of commercial betting firms. The Bundesliga leaders have filed a complaint to the court in an attempt to overturn the ban.

The complaint was filed Oct. 13, and the club said on its site that the team should be allowed to promote private betting firms until they have new regulations.

While the issue is still being disputed, Werder Bremen is wearing a logo that says "we win," instead of bwin.com, which runs poker sites such as PokerRoom.com and EuroPoker.com.
