Takechip Towers in October High Stakes

Philippe D'Auteuil
Phil "takechip" D'Auteuil

With much of the poker world caught up in WSOPE and EPT London and San Remo, Phil “takechip” D’Auteuil took the online world by storm.

The French Canadian pro took no prisoners as he smashed his way to a month-leading profit of $855k. Prior to October D’Auteuil was only up a little over $100k on the year but now finds himself as one of the biggest overall winners in 2011.

Big name pros were rather hard to come by online as many were hitting the live tournament circuit hard in England and France but Brian Hastings and Phil Galfond both found time to record a few significant sessions in the early stages of the month.

The end of 2011 is drawing ever closer, which means any players who still find themselves in the red could potentially hit the virtual tables hard to try and escape with a profit.

As always be sure to check our online poker stats section for more information on the biggest action from the last month.

Top 10 Winners in October

Phil “takechip” D’Auteuil was far and away the biggest winner in October but Ilari Sahamies also put in a very impressive performance.

The Finn was flying as he recorded 6,392 hands and stacked his way to $762k in online poker profit.

Sahamies, who hit rock bottom in mid-July when he was down nearly $1 million on the year, has made a dramatic turnaround and is now up over $1.3 million in profit this year.

The swingy Finn is still chasing the biggest winner this year, Rafi Amit with $2 million in profit, but if he keeps momentum going it wouldn’t be a complete surprise to see Sahamies crack the $2 million mark before the year is complete.

Of course it wouldn’t be a complete surprise to see Sahamies lose it all, either.

The other notable winners in October included Brian Hastings who took down $226k and recent EPT London winner Benny Spindler who won $225k.

Here’s a complete look at the top 10 winners in the month of October:

Top 10 Losers in October

Online player LiangYu came out of nowhere to lose an astounding $404k in October.

LiangYu was virtually unheard of until he hit the tables in mid-August and promptly won $52k. It didn’t last as he took an absolute beating in October.

Close behind LiangYu was noted pro Richard “nutsinho” Lyndaker who lost a total of $384k.

It’s been a catastrophic year for the U.S.-born pro as he’s currently down over $1 million on PokerStars this year.

WSOP bracelet winner Phil Galfond also recorded a mediocre month, dumping a total of $199k into the high stakes games. Galfond still holds a profit of $257k in 2011 but that's relatively low by his standards.

Meanwhile Rui “PepperoniF” Cao, who has been exceptionally hot this year, had a decidedly cold month losing $171k. Considering he’s still up nearly $1 million, the French pro will probably be just fine.

Here’s a look at the top 10 losers in the month of October:

1. LiangYu: -$404,000
2. Richard “nutsinho” Lyndaker: -$384,000
3. GARFIELD25: -$217,000
