Swedish player wins Everest Poker European Championship
By Sarah Polson
Peter Lindstrom, from Sweden, won the first ever Everest Poker European Championship (EPEC) that took place in Barcelona, Spain, Sept. 9. He outlasted a field of 100 players from across Europe to claim the championship title.
To make it to Barcelona, players had to win one of the live or online tournaments running in several European countries since March. Lindstrom won the live qualifier tournament in Wirsbo, Sweden, in May, earning a €900 prize package including travel expenses to the final competition.
"I'm thrilled to have taken part in such an enjoyable and gripping event," Lindstrom said. "Everest Poker provided me with coaching and supported me throughout the qualifier tournament, allowing me to excel in the final against some tough competition. It was a great experience, and I look forward to taking part in other live and online Everest Poker tournaments, and in the 2007 edition of the EPEC."
Lindstrom and the top 17 players who hailed from Germany, Denmark, France, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, Italy, and Sweden, shared a €50,000 prize pool for the event.
Everest Poker is expecting more than 50,000 players to register for the 2007 EPEC. The dates for the qualifiers and the final event haven't yet been announced.
