Scott “urnotindangr” Palmer narrowly defeated Viktor “Isildur1” Blom in a hotly contested edition of the SuperStar Showdown last night.

Palmer, a fixture of the high stakes community on both PokerStars and Full Tilt, barely beat Blom, finishing ahead just $5,425 after 2,500 hands.

The $5,425 victory will carry over to next Sunday’s rematch with Blom and Palmer facing off one more time.

Last night’s session was the fastest one yet with Blom and Palmer firing off all 2,500 hands of $50/$100 No-Limit Hold’em in just four hours.

As expected the session was full of swings with Palmer peaking at $50k early, then Blom fighting back and getting ahead by the same amount.

After taking turns with the lead Blom finally started pull ahead with about 200 hands remaining.

At this point Palmer decided to take a different approach, avoiding some of the huge pots and just steadily chipping away at Blom by winning a number of small pots.

There was one rather large exception, however, as the biggest pot of the session occurred around the 100-hand mark.

Blom opened for a standard 3X raise with a modest T 8 in the hole and Palmer called with pocket fives.

The flop came 5-2-2 and Palmer had flopped a full house. Palmer checked and Blom bet $500 into him. The turn was a seven, Palmer checked and Blom fired another bullet for $1,400.

Palmer called and the river finished with a four. Palmer checked for a third time and Blom, never one to let up, fired a third bullet for $2,850.

Palmer woke up and bet $8,600. Apparently Blom thought Palmer was weak because he decided to shove for $42,950 with his ten-high.

Palmer snap-called and instantly raked in the biggest pot of the session, worth a total of $58k.

The two rivals continued to battle back and forth over the last 50 hands but Palmer held on to record a small $5,425 victory.

With the loss Blom falls to 5-3 in the SuperStar Showdown with wins against Dan “jungleman12” Cates, Daniel Negreanu, Tony G, Eugene Katchalov and an online qualifier. Blom also lost to Negreanu, Isaac Haxton and now Palmer.

Blom and Palmer will resume the challenge next Sunday at 3 p.m. EDT.

Palmer certainly wasn’t done with online poker after the SuperStar Showdown last night as he went on to play a massive PLO session against cadillac1944, skjervoy and FinnishNightmare that would see him win $488k.
