Sunday Scoop: jclever16 Outplays Competition
Lebanese online player jclever16 earned a $207,195 payday by winning the PokerStars Sunday Million last night.
Easily the biggest tournament on Sunday the event drew 6,811 players including Team PokerStars Pros Martin Hruby, Toni Judet and Joao Nunes. Judet lasted longer than other ‘Stars pros and eventually finished in 141st place.
It took nearly 11 hours to reach the final table of nine players and although jclever16 only entered nine-handed play with a slightly above average chip stack he won a huge hand early on against one of the chip leaders when he flopped a set of jacks.
Jclever16 did not look back after the hand and went on to beat PSMozak heads-up. PSMozak had to settle for a $153k consolation prize.
The Sunday Million was obviously not the only action on tap yesterday and the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up drew 3,274 players to create a $654,800 prizepool.
Once again there will several Team PokerStars Pros that made deep runs including Anders Berg, Jonathan Duhamel and Theo Jorgensen. Romanian Toni Judet was also the last member of Team PokerStars standing in the Sunday Warm-Up as he finished in 129th place.
There was a deal made three-handed but omalos still won a very decent $82,314 for first place.
The very first PokerStars Red Spade tournament also took place yesterday. The event had a $55 buy-in and offered a prize pool of $1 million with a $100 bounty on PokerStars pros Jason Mercier, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Maxim Lykov, Eugene Katchalov and Andre Akkari.
There ended up being a nine-way deal in the Red Spade tournament but three players walked away with over $100,000 and everyone at the final table made over $50k.
The United Kingdom’s VL-Hannibal was the overall winner, taking down an impressive $164,396.
Finally the most pro-heavy online poker tournament of the day – the Sunday 500 – was won by Dutch poker pro Ruben “rubenrtv” Visser for $61k.
