Sunday Scoop: Crowe Captures Warm-Up
Noted online grinder Owen “ocrowe” Crowe added a Sunday Warm-Up title to his already impressive poker résumé last night.
The Canadian outlasted 3,241 players to win a first-place prize of $101k in the huge tournament.
Team PokerStars Pros Jose Barbero and Liv Boeree both made it into the money.
It was the second straight week that Boeree has picked up some cash from the Sunday Warm-Up and, although it was a relatively minor $388, she seems due for a big score in the event.
Crowe, who has over $2.2 million in lifetime earnings, has already won some of the biggest online poker tournaments on PokerStars including the Sunday $200 with Rebuys and the Super Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Ponga80 cruised to victory in a 6,525-player No-Limit Hold'em Sunday Million.
The event drew several Team PokerStars pros but most were eliminated in the early stages of the tournament.
Friend of PokerStars Pierre “Zoutechamp” Neuville was one of the few notable players to make it into the money and he only made it to 771st place.
Ponga80 hit the final table as one of the chip leaders and didn’t hesitate to start stacking his opponents.
He did get exceptionally lucky three-handed to bust dynastyzz with A-8 over A-J. An eight on the turn of a dry board spelled doom for dynastyzz.
Going into heads-up play Ponga80 had a slight chip disadvantage to kmichael14 but that didn’t stop him from taking an early lead.
The pair talked briefly about making a deal but Ponga80 quashed that idea, which ended up being a smart move.
Kmichael14 would eventually get all his chips in the middle with pocket nines against Ponga80.
A jack spiked on the flop and that was enough to give Ponga80 his first Sunday Million title for a total of $198k.
The consolation prize was $146k, so kmichael14 was likely not that upset about missing out on the deal.
