Sportingbet execs quit company's board of directors

By Erin Warner

Two more executives have resigned their positions with the British online gambling business Sportingbet, Plc., the Associated Press is reporting.

Mark Blandford, Sportingbet's executive director, and Bob Holt, a non-executive director, have quit the company.

The pair's departure follows the resignation of former board chairman Peter Dicks, who was detained by U.S. customs last September on an outstanding warrant for gambling online in Louisiana.

"As the company continues to drive further efficiencies from its business we have agreed to reduce the size of the board," Sportingbet CEO Andrew McIver told the Associated Press.

Both men are now pursuing other business interests, while senior independent director Sean O'Connor will assume Holt's former role as chairman of the audit committee, McIver said.

In addition to Dicks' legal troubles, Sportingbet took a hit when the U.S. banned online gambling in the country last October. The company sold its American operations for $1 when the new regulations came into effect.

It did, however, retain Paradise Poker, but doesn't allow U.S. players on the poker site.
