Spindler Spins: Top 10 Weekly Winners/Losers
Benny “toweliestar” Spindler cruised to a $501k profit in this week’s high stakes games on PokerStars.
The German is perhaps most famous for finishing third in the 2009 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure for $1.1 million as well as winning the $25k Heads-Up SCOOP event for $310k later that year.
He’s never been quite as well known, however, for his online high stakes prowess but he more than proved he could roll with the big dogs this week by winning half a million dollars.
It was a busy week for high stakes with some huge wins by Rafi Amit and Sami “Lrslzk” Kelipuro but several of the biggest names pros were MIA.
Both Phil Galfond and Viktor Blom were essentially inactive, which means they might be on their way to England for EPT London.
As always be sure to check our online poker stats section to get even more information on the biggest hands from the last week.
What follows is a breakdown of the top 10 biggest winners and losers this week:
Top 10 Biggest Winners this Week
Perhaps the most amazing thing about Benny Spindler’s performance over the last few weeks is that he started September with $17k in profit on his PokerStars account.
That means in just over three weeks Spindler went from $17k to $706k. Not a bad run for the German. If he can keep momentum going expect Spindler to challenge for most profitable player of the year in the near future.
Of course Spindler wasn’t the only player to pick up a ton of cash this week. Israeli poker pro Rafi Amit got off to a hot start, then dropped several hundred thousand, but still managed to finish the week with an extra $271k.
Thanks to his winnings this week, Amit was able to hold on to his status as the most profitable online player in 2011 with $1.56 million. Skjervoy, who wasn’t active this week, is right behind, however, with $1.51 million.
Also worth noting was that Finnish pro Sami “Lrszk” Kelipuro managed to take down $115k this week.
Regarded as one of the best online cash game players in the world, Kelipuro has had some challenges on PokerStars this year and, despite his win this week, is still down $47k.

Top 10 Biggest Losers this Week
Jedlicka is now down $459k on the site and is going to need to finish the year very strong if he wants to get out of the red.
There were a number of star players who lost big this week including former most profitable player Rui “PepperoniF” Cao who dropped $205k.
Cao still holds $1 million in profit this year but considering he had $1.5 million a little over a week ago it must be a tough pill to swallow.
Gavin “gavz101” Cochrane is likely familiar with the situation as he peaked at $1.8 million in the early stages of 2011 but after weeks of losing is now down to just $950,000.
The $177k he lost this week dropped him below $1 million in profit for the first time since spring.
Noted pros Jens Kyllonen, JP Kelly and Ville Wahlbeck all took significant losses as well.
Here’s a complete look at the top 10 biggest losers this week:
