Spindler Second Overall After EPT London Day 1B

Benny Spindler
Benny Spindler finishes first among Day 1B survivors, second overall for Day 2.

The second Day 1 heat at this year’s EPT London main event is over and although Benny Spindler did the best job of stacking chips today, he’ll enter Day 2 in second position trailing Day 1A chip leader Lukasz Golczyk.

Expectations for a big Day 1B field were high but even with 411 entrants, the total number of players in this event fell far short of the 848 who played one year ago.

691 players in total kicked in their £5,250 buy-in to put together a total prize pool of £3,351,350, with £750,000 waiting for the eventual winner.

And while Day 1A felt measured, civilized even, Day 1B was frenetic as long lines of poker players piled into a packed tournament room. Among them were more than a few familiar faces.

North-American big buy-in tournament fixtures like Freddy Deeb, Daniel Negreanu, David Williams, Jason Mercier and Sorel Mizzi played elbow-to-elbow with Euro-rounders like Praz Bansi, Neil Channing, Annette Obrestad and David Benyamine.

Former world champions Joe Cada, Joe Hachem and Jon Duhamel mixed it up with top internet phenoms like Viktor “Isildur1” Blom and Dan “Jungleman12” Cates.

Combining the survivors from both Day 1 heats puts 417 players back on the felt tomorrow to fight for a spot in the money. 104 in total will be paid.

Finishing with more than enough chips to make a run at the money tomorrow were Sorel Mizzi (129,200), Justin Bonomo (126,100), Jeff Sarwer (111,300) and Sam Chartier (110,100).

Among those who fell short of Day 2 were Viktor Blom, ElkY Grospellier, Daniel Negreanu, Jon Duhamel, Liv Boeree and Jean-Robert Bellande.
