A 24-year-old Spanish chemist mixed things up at the second PartyPoker.com Late Night Poker Ace event Friday and walked away $50,000 richer. Raul Mestre now has bragging rights to being the world's best amateur player following the culmination of a televised tournament designed to find undiscovered poker talent.

The Valencia, Spain native beat out top amateur players for the win and a chance to play at the PartyPoker.com Late Night Poker Masters tournament.

In addition to his poker skills, Mestre gives credit to a little bit of luck during the tournament.

"There were two times when I went all-in with just a 50% chance of winning and luckily I won both times," he said in a release after the event aired in Britain Friday.

"This is the way poker works, it is a game of skill but sometimes you cannot avoid taking risks. Avoiding too many unnecessary risks is the key."

At home, Mestre plays mainly small-stakes cash games; his biggest win prior to the Late Night Poker Ace event was a $16,000 prize from an online poker tournament.

To land a seat at the tournament, players had to go online to PartyPoker.com to qualify.
