Spaniard tops Everest Poker Avalanche
By Sarah Polson
They came, and they saw, but it was Ismael Arribas Munoz who conquered the Everest Poker Avalanche on May 29.
Munoz, from Madrid, Spain, was one of the 10 players who survived an online installment of the Everest Poker tournament to be flown to the Mediterranean where the final table of the event was played out on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.
He was joined by four Germans, two French, two Dutch and a Swede to compete for what remained of the $1 million prize pool for the tournament.
According to Everest Poker, the live event was billed as a battle between youth and experience. The finalists ranged in age from 21 to 55, and it was youth that took the top honors.
Munoz, 21, won the event and the $200,000 top prize. The second- and third-place spots went to two 25-year-old players as well.
The final-table results were:
| Place | Name | Country | Prize |
| 1st | Ismael Arribas Munoz (ismaelpsx) | Spain | $200,000 |
| 2nd | Wing Kwok Tang (Mofox_IP) | Netherlands | $120,000 |
| 3rd | Brice Cousin (BriceInParis) | France | $90,000 |
| 4th | Monika Kees (Doha2006) | Germany | $70,000 |
| 5th | Jelmer Ateema (jattema) | Netherlands | $45,000 |
| 6th | Andreas Robert Peschel (Anrope) | Germany | $35,000 |
| 7th | Mieczyslaw Basara (matchpoint) | Germany | $25,000 |
| 8th | Andreas Hoffman (sailfun) | Germany | $17,000 |
| 9th | Fabien Cauvet (tapygris) | France | $12,500 |
| 10th | Stefan Anders Hagg (simbastra) | Sweden | $10,000 |
The German contingent may have made up 40% of the table, but its top player only managed a fourth-place finish. Sweden usually has strong contenders for events as well, but its player was the first out of the final table.
This year's Avalanche may be over, but Everest Poker still has plenty of promotions running for its players. The poker site is offering ways for players to win prize packages to the 2008 World Series and for the Spanish Poker Tour.
