Shlez Comes Back to Win Borgata Winter Open
Brooklyn, New York's Vadim Shlez came out on top of the Borgata Winter Poker Open main event in Atlantic City last week.
The Ukranian Born poker pro took home the $533,210 first-place prize beating New Haven, Connecticut's LJ Sande heads-up.
"I don't know how I'm talking right now, I'm kind of speechless," Shlez told the Borgata Blog. "It means a lot, but I don't know what it means yet because it hasn't sunk in yet."
At one point Shlez was down to just 11 big blinds at the final table, but managed a miraculous comeback.
It all started when he picked up pocket kings and picked off an ill-timed shove by third-place finisher Trevor Savage.
"I don't know how I came back," he said. "At that point it seemed dim, but I never lost confidence in my decisions and in myself."
2009 WPT Southern Poker Championship runner-up and high-stakes circuit regular Bobby Suer was the best know player at the final table, but failed to finish better than fourth.
The $3,500 event began Sunday drawing 718 players to the Borgata Hotel & Casino to create a $2,369,400 prize pool.
Here's how the final table finished up:
1 Vadim Shlez $533,210
2 LJ Sande $310,273
3 Trevor Savage $189,611
4 Bobby Suer $156,286
