Sexton to school poker novices in the tropics
By Erin Warner
Next month World Poker Tour commentator Mike Sexton will take his hosting duties to the beaches of Bermuda.
The Fairmont Southhampton Hotel is teaming with WPT Events to bring Poker in Paradise - a combination holiday and poker school - to the island and the so-called "Ambassador of Poker" will be on hand to mingle and offer Hold'em tips.
The three day event runs Feb. 8-11, and includes two or three nights accommodation, meals and a welcoming reception with Sexton starting at $849.
The resort is marketing the first-ever event through wholesalers in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.
Gambling laws in Bermuda prohibit WPT tournaments from taking place in the country, but given the popularity of poker the resort wanted to work within the regulations to offer a fun event, said a spokeswoman for the Fairmont Southhampton Hotel.
Over the three days, Paradise Poker participants will attend a tutorial with Sexton, a three-hour pick up poker session and a No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournament.
Tournament play will be for prizes, not money, which include trips to Monaco and the Sonoma Valley in the U.S.
