Review

Secrets of Professional Pot-Limit Omaha is the second book from poker pro Rolf Slotboom. Anyone who plays the game of Omaha - especially the Pot-Limit version - knows how different it is from other poker games.

Given the media and Internet hype, No-Limit Hold'em had, until recently, almost total domination of both the online and live poker markets. This is about to change, however, and this book will arm you with the knowledge to make that change profitable.

With Secrets of Professional Pot-Limit Omaha, Slotboom has authored an easy-to-understand book of advanced Pot-Limit Omaha strategy, and it is a great read.

The book starts out in Vienna and Amsterdam where Slotboom learns to play Omaha and quickly masters the game. The next chapter tells of his move from small buy-in games to the biggest games in Europe and gives the reader insight into his knowledge and theories. The book goes on to present interesting articles, descriptions of hands and their outcomes with strategic play-by-play narrated by Slotboom.

The real gems in the book are the last three chapters containing classic articles, practice hands and hand match-up and analysis. Anyone playing Pot-Limit Omaha is sure to find this book a very rewarding read.

Slotboom has written a future classic in Secrets of Professional Pot-Limit Omaha and the book is sure to improve many Omaha players' games. The book is recommended to anyone playing or wanting to play Pot-Limit Omaha. Just know that it is not a complete beginner's book but requires some knowledge of the game to be understood correctly.

The book consists of seven chapters including:

  1. My time In Vienna - A New Strategy
  2. Amsterdam - Facing the Best PLO Players and Beating Them
  3. Moving Up to the Biggest Online Games
  4. Playing Online: Adjusting to Short-Handed Play
  5. Classic Articles
  6. Practice Hands
  7. Hand Match-Up and Analysis

The book totals 240 pages including preface, foreword, glossary and further reading which includes useful Web sites and tools.
