By Erin Warner
Norway's Bastian Landehagen is holding onto the chip lead following Day 1a at the European Poker Tour's Scandinavian Open in Denmark.
Landehagen holds €98,400 stack, trailed by fellow Norwegian Erlend Melsom with €80,000 at the Casino Copenhagen in the city's SAS Radisson Scandinavia Hotel.
The event sold out within 18 hours, and its 400 entrants are now competing for a €540,000 first-place prize drawn from a pool of more than €1.8 million.
Some big poker personalities came out to play in Copenhagen, including T.J. Cloutier and Tom McEvoy, who both survived Day 1. Canada's Isabelle Mercier also turned up at the event but didn't make the second tournament day.
Day 2 at the Scandinavian Open will include 154 players competing to for a chair in the final table Jan. 20.
Though the field is comprised mainly of Scandinavians, international players include 25 participants from the U.S. and eight Canadians.
