The VHI Classic Rock'n'Roll Celebrity Poker tournament, originally planned for earlier this year, has finally been rescheduled for Nov. 2 at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The tournament will feature top rock names as well as professional poker players with the main event proceeds going to a charity chosen by the winner.
The rockers scheduled to compete include Sully Erna of Godsmack, Vinnie Paul of Pantera and Big Vin Records, Ace Frehly of KISS, Dusty Hill of ZZ Top, and Scott Ian of Anthrax. They and others will play for a $25,000 check to the charity of their choice as well as a seat in the 2007 UltimateBet Aruba Poker Tournament and a chance to be VJ for a day on VH1 Classic.
In the event of a non-celebrity winner, the winning player will appear as a sidekick on VH1 with the highest ranking celebrity of the tournament.
"As we continue the process of reinventing the Flamingo, the VH1 Classic Rock'n'Roll Celebrity Poker Tournament is a prime example of the direction the resort will be taking in the future," said Don Marrandino, president of Flamingo Las Vegas. "This talented group of artists will rock the Flamingo."
"I am proud to be working with the Flamingo and UltimateBet to raise awareness and contributions for selected charities. We have also twisted up this tournament by adding something no one else in poker has done, with as much going on in the green room as we do the main tournament area," said producer Lisa Tenner.
UltimateBet is also giving people a chance to win two slots in the tournament through their www.UltimateBet.tv site. Poker players can take part in freeroll qualifying tournaments that are currently running with the final weekly semi-final tournament taking place Saturday, and the final to determine the winners taking place Oct. 21.
The players eliminated from the main event will have a second chance to win with a heads-up tournament in the Green Room. They will compete to win a cruise for two to Alaska in June 2007.
The charity event will be taped in the Second City Theatre of the Flamingo to be aired at a future date on VH1 Classic.
